SGC/SAP annual report 2007/08 The Sentencing Guidelines Council and the Sentencing Advisory Panel published their joint annual report on 25 June 2008.
Consultation sentencing guideline and Advice on Breach of an Anti-Social Behaviour Order The Sentencing Guidelines Council published a consultation guideline for breaches of anti-social behaviour orders on 23 May 2008. The Sentencing Advisory Panel also published its Advice on the same day.
Revised Magistrates' Court Sentencing Guidelines - Published 12 May 2008 The Sentencing Guidelines Council has today published the definitive guidelines. The guidelines will be implemented on 4th August 2008. An electronic version of the guidelines is being circulated to key stakeholders and interested parties, and is available on our website. Hard copies will be ready for distribution from the last week in May. Every District Judge, magistrate and legal adviser will receive an individual copy in readiness for implementation of the guidelines. For the purposes of the distribution, priority is being given to those courts and areas that are commencing their training programmes imminently. Copies of the guidelines will also be sent to every Crown Court centre.
Consultation sentencing guideline and advice on theft and burglary (non-dwelling) The Sentencing Guidelines Council published a consultation guideline on the sentencing of adult offenders convicted of theft and burglary (non-dwelling) offences on 10 March 2008. The Sentencing Advisory Panel also published its 'Advice on sentencing for theft from a shop' and 'Sentencing for offences of theft and dishonesty' on the same day.

Definitive Sentencing Guidelines – Assaults and Other Offences against the Person and Assaults on Children and Cruelty to a Child On 20 February 2008 the Sentencing Guidelines Council published its definitive guidelines on “Assault and Other Offences Against the Person” and “Overarching Principles: Assaults on Children and Cruelty to a Child.”
Read all about it! An extremely useful tool for Judges, Magistrates and all those interested in sentencing has been published today. The 8th edition of the Sentencing Guidelines newsletter provides practitioners with detailed information about sentences for all ranges of offences down to local court or youth offending team level. It covers the period for 2002 to 2006 for adults and 2002 to the end of March 2007 for youths. Issues highlighted in the January 2008 edition of the Sentence include the rise in imprisonment for public protection (IPP), the increase in suspended sentences orders and fall in community orders together with changing patterns in the number and length of custodial sentences. Guideline judgments case compendium – dangerous offender provisions On Friday 21st September 2007, the Sentencing Guidelines Council published an addendum to the Compendium of Court of Appeal Guidelines. This relates to the dangerous offender provisions and brings together key judgments, setting them in the context of the statutory provisions; the document also contains two flow charts to help in ensuring that the proper stages are followed in the decision making process.
April 2007: Third update to guideline judgments case compendium A new update has been published for the Council’s compendium of guideline judgments first issued in March 2005. It includes summaries of recent decisions dealing with the sentencing of dangerous offenders and the approach to sentencing for breach of an anti-social behaviour order. It also summarises judgments relating to specific offences including causing death by dangerous driving/causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs, and health and safety offences.
